A well made building will be strong enough for all its uses. There shouldn’t be any cracks in the walls or leaks in the windows or roof, for example.

But build quality also contributes to the pleasure we take in a building. The details of everything from brickwork to the tiles on a floor can make a place much nicer to use.

Sometimes problems are obvious, but look carefully at the details of the building too, at how windows and doors are fitted, whether the electrics and plumbing are robust, neat and tidy.
